The Rotary Club of Romsey Test would like to say a huge thank you to Embley School’s Combined Cadet Force for their help and support on the day.
Walk the Test Way is an annual fundraiser which, this year has raised £85,000 for 86 charities in our local area.
Clive Collier President of Romsey Rotary and Brian Davies Walk Chairman attended Embley School to meet with the cadets to thank them and to hand over a cheque for £570.00.
“This event simply could not happen without the incredible efforts of marshals and volunteers on the day” says Brian Davies, Walk Chairman. Embley Cadets were in charge of a 2 mile stretch along the walk, this is what they had to say about it…
On Sunday the 29th of September, a group of Cadets from Embley’s Combined Cadet Force got the opportunity to attend the Walk The Test Way event, to volunteer as marshals, the invitation for the event came from the Rotary Club of Romsey Test, who we have worked with in the past. The group of cadets who attended were from years 7-12, the Cadets were placed into sections of 3-4 cadets, and each section had a senior cadet who was put in charge of the section. All cadets were given lessons in basic radio comminutions before they attended, this saw them learn basic radio etiquette and the phonetic alphabet, which allowed them to talk to one another effectively over the 2-mile section they oversaw.
All cadets who attended worked incredibly hard, and all were proud of them.
“Thank you to the Rotary Club of Romsey Test for inviting the cadet force and staff who attended to help make the event possible. Thank you as well to all the parents who provided transport for each cadet on the day. It was a valuable learning experience for all cadets involved and was a pleasure to work with the community. We hope to attend more events in the future”. says Cadet Staff Sergeant Oliver Rose Yr 12.
For each cadet that attended, the Rotary Club donated £20 to go towards a charity of the cadets choice. This year they have chosen Scottys Little Soldiers and Help for Heroes.
