Romsey Opportunity Group enables young children with special needs the opportunity to learn and develop through play.
Since opening in 1971, Romsey Opportunity Group has been a special place that welcomes children from birth to school age with additional needs – physical, emotional, learning and behavioural.
We are a small charity, led by a core of 5 paid staff including two co-ordinators, an administrator, two support workers and a large team of dedicated volunteers. 45 years on, Romsey Opportunity Group continues to provide specialist play facilities for these very special children and when possible their siblings. We provide a stimulating environment where children can play and learn at their own rate with a keyworker to help reach their potential.
In addition to working with the children, the group also emphasises support for their families. A separate room is provided where parents and carers are able to chat over coffee and toast whilst the family co-ordinator is available to help provide information or a listening ear. Alternatively it is possible to leave the building, as the group is registered with Ofsted and staff and volunteers are fully checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service. Short trips to town provide valuable respite from the demands of coping with young children.
The group is self financed and is fully reliant on support from the local, community, grants and fundraising. It costs £1,000 per child per year to attend the group.
